Something that I feel at this time truly needs explaining is the importance and the relevance today of the American dream, you see the United States of America at this current period of time is probably the most divided that it has been in it’s relatively short history and many people seem to have forgotten the fundamental principles that make up what once was the American dream, a dream that was supposed to be obtainable for everybody, sadly today this is not the case. The rich and wealthy seem to run rampant in this country living out their dreams at the expense of every day Americans. The people at the top, or at least the majority of them are corrupt or involved in some sort of corruption and the ones that are not are paid for their silence or silenced in other ways. It is an elite club at the top but that is a falsification of the great American dream, you see the American dream was never truly about wealth or at least not in the monetary sense. You see wealth can be quantified in much more than just money or cash wealth, is not the wealthiest man in the world the one that lives in complete happiness, a man who is content with their station in life and a man that finds joy in simply rising every morning to do the work that they do. The American dream was never about money it was simply distorted to fit the narrative of the rich, it was distorted by design to keep the average individual down in the gutters begging for scraps whilst the rich live like Kings on the hard working backs of the average American. The harsh reality is that for many people the American dream is dying, it has been strangled by Capitalism and now only the rich can achieve it- the playing field has shifted and it is time for the people to try and make it level once again.
To give you some background on me- I am not originally from this country- England is where I was born and grew up but like many immigrants who during their life time have made the bold move to cross the seas to the United States of America, I am a firm believer in the American dream and I have been chasing it ever since I have been here which is going on fifteen years now- the American dream is personal to me and I will chase it till there is not a single breath left in my body. The immigration process is difficult and time consuming and I am as proud to be here as any American as I had to earn my right to be here, it was a financial strain and a mentally challenging process, of which the government put a multitude of hurdles in my way. I am glad to say that with grit and determination I was able to get through the process and was granted legal status in a country that I have been proud to call my home for over the last decade. I still believe in the same American dream that I did when I got here but it seems as though the goal posts keep on moving further and further away.
Since I have been in this country I have followed every law, I carry my Green Card everywhere I go as it is a misdemeanour to not be able to present it when requested so by an officer of the law, I never draw attention from law enforcement and I never cause an issue that might jeopardize my status as a legal resident of this great country, I live within the law and as such I am able to live in relative peace. I respect the Office of the President of the United States of America regardless of who holds that office, I understand that it is OK to disagree with the President and peacefully voice my opinion through my representatives but civil unrest is not the answer. I am not eligible to vote and have never once considered doing so as it to my knowledge is a criminal act- I will save that privilege for when I obtain my citizenship (hopefully this year).
When I was first granted admission into the United States of America it felt as though I was handed a golden ticket, everybody the world over knows that this country is the land of opportunity, a country where the average man is supposed to be able to achieve anything that they want in life and if you are accepted here you have your destiny in your own hands. That is what I have always believed and over the years that is exactly how it played out for many hard working Americans, these were the people that built the country from the ground up, the Pioneers and Patriots that were united in paving the way for all of us; the problem is that somewhere we got lost along the way. As the rich elites of this country got wealthier greed overtook them and they no longer cared about their fellow Citizen, sure they would still pretend to when it was convenient for them but if it made them money they would be just as content trampling their lifeless corpses into the mud for a couple of extra dimes. This new demonization of immigrants and the accusations that it is immigrants that are stealing away the American dream from American citizens is a false narrative that has been created to divide us. It is not immigrants that are stealing the American dream from Americans- they are simply dreamers like the rest of us. It is the rich elites that are stealing your American dream, it is the rich elites that are keeping you down and pitting you against each other and they are directing your frustration at the wrong people but it is all to keep their status in this world protected, they are happily living their American dream while you suffer. The reminder I feel we need in these somewhat dark times is that we are the United States of America and we need to be just that- United. We need to stand as one in this country for the betterment of every man woman and child, regardless of Race, Religion or even nation of Origin- for that is what made America great and that over the years is the true American dream that all our lives has been worth fighting for. Many Americans have lost their lives in defense of this dream and it is almost certainty that over time many more will also meet their demise to protect this so we need to live our lives accordingly in their honor and never let the American dream die for that is our legacy, the ones who pick up the flag and run, the brave the few, the chosen or accepted, Americans or almost Americans- rich or poor- we should all be able to live our own American dream.
